Message Regarding Grad 2020

Message Regarding Wm. E. Hay Graduation 2020

As an Admin team, we would like to provide the following information about Wm E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus’ Graduation 2020.  First of all, we are pleased to announce this year’s Valedictorian is Wade Smith. Congratulations, Wade on this significant achievement!

As a staff, we certainly regret that we are unable to provide our traditional celebration of the Grads’ academic achievement of an Alberta High School Diploma. However, as an Admin team in conjunction with the Grad Committee, we are currently working on offering the following elements as part of this year’s Graduation:

  • We are organizing a photo opportunity / honorary diploma presentation for individual graduates in the PAC with Mr. Baharally.  The PAC will be decorated by the Parent Decorating Committee.  We will provide a photographer to capture this momentous event. There will be further details coming on a schedule and protocol.  This event will occur on Saturday, June 20th starting at 8:00 AM.  We will send out more specific details in the near future.  If the current situation changes, and Alberta Health’s restrictions are lightened, we will modify what we are able to offer.
  • Early in March, the Student Grad Committee had made some decisions about music, speakers, and the theme of “We Wrote our own Destiny”.  Speeches that are traditionally delivered at the graduation ceremony will be recorded, and included in the Grad Video that Mr. Fleischhaker will be producing for the grads.  This will include a Principal’s Address,  the Valedictorian Address, the tribute to the Parents, and the Parents’ Reply.  These speeches will be included on the Grad Video, which will be released on line on June 27th as part of a Virtual Grad celebration.  This enables families to celebrate their Grads as they wish.
  • We are currently working with Lifetouch Photography to provide an opportunity for Grads to have their Cap and Gown portraits done.  They are close to finishing up measures to be put in place for this to be offered in a safe manner for all involved.  They will be contacting parents and grads soon with further details for bookings.
  • We hope to include speeches, baby pictures, and the Cap and Gown photos in the Yearbook.

We understand that this is not the traditional Wm E. Hay Graduation ceremony we had all hoped for, but we are going to do our very best to celebrate the achievements of our Grade Twelves despite the challenges of COVID-19.
